This is very much like a spider except that a crawler constantly searches the web and follows all of the links that it finds. Crawlers visit websites and check to see if it is listed in their search engine's database. If a website is already in the database, the crawler will find any changes and reconfigure the site's rank in the search engine's listings. If the website is not in the database, then the crawler will record all the information and add the site to the database with a rank.
