DowntimeThe period of time that a site is not able to be accessed. This happens for two main reasons. One, the web host is having some kind of technical failure or maintenance work. Two, work is being done on the site. Nothing is actually wrong with a website during downtime, but no visitors will be able to access it. If you have ever tried to visit a website and had a 404 error page show up, you have probably caught the site while it was down. Luckily, downtime is almost never for a very long period of time. Most web hosts guarantee an uptime of 99.9%. Keep in mind that this means .1% of a year may be downtime because of natural events.
